Another experiment in using facial recognition software (see the Bella series) to crop source images to make pixel portraits. In the previous Teddy series I used larger blocks than one pixel to assemble the portrait. This time I tried to combine different sized blocks in one picture.
I used images of Alejandra Guilmant. She is a model that often poses topless or nude. I had to adjust the cropping of the face recognition algorithm to include her torso in the frame. I was curious how the pictures would look when incorporating more of the body, not just the face.
I copied over squares from different sizes from different pictures, and iterated this several times to get a more complex and layered look than before (as for example Teddy). As before I let the program run and create a 1000 images, from which I selected the 8 that I liked best.
I love the way the result is almost a pixelated / censored image, which almost hides her nude body, but not quite in the way you’d expect… in some instances even multiplying the number of nipples on view.
