The black square by Malevitch is such a basic and simple form. The painting is cracked and the square is slightly askew. I could not help but wonder if I could not use the digital technologies and precise printing technologies we have today to remake the black square, but more precise and sharper. The same overall size, but the black square perfectly square and exactly half of the white square. Printer supersharp using archival ink and paper. So I made a A0 version of the black square as a glicee print, with all colors at 100% to achieve a very opaque black.
The moment you start to unpack the print and start to frame it, reailty creeps in: little dust flecks, little hairs, the paper creases easily where it is handled. The ultimate black square is still an idea.
