After the Anya (byte) series I took the same concept, to start from a limited set of grays in one picture, and fill every shade with parts of another picture. With Anya I filled it with a solid color, in this series I used the actual pixel data. In a way it is a portrait made of existing portraits much like a collage.
I used pictures from Luma Grothe, a very beautiful Brazillian model. In past series I was most interested and pleased when I achieved a coherent recognizable portrait. Here I was delighted with the stylistic and formal effects, making the portraits almost cubist. I love the different layers of depth in these pictures, and the way you can see she is beautiful but the portraits themselves are not really flattering or beautiful.
I like how it does not look like any existing type of art. The images still also have a painterly look about them, but also a sci-fi constructed look.
